Hi. I’m Nathan. Welcome to my site. It’s kinda casual and relaxed around here.
So, I like to make things. All kinds of things. I’ve been doing it all my life, tinkering with stuff. There have been a few things I’ve always wanted to play with, and blacksmithing is one of them. One day I just decided to go to a meeting of a local blacksmithing organization I have here, and I fell in love with the craft. I’ve always had a love of things like carpentry and mechanically oriented crafts, but blacksmithing blends my interests in science in along with things, too. Ever since then I’ve been hooked. For about two years, to be exact.
So why did I call this blog “Becoming a Blacksmith”? Simple, because that’s what I’m doing. Some people would argue (and have) that I’m already a blacksmith, because I do blacksmith things. I feel differently, however. I feel like it is a never-ending journey and that being a blacksmith is a pinnacle you only reach after a lifetime of practicing the art. So this is my journey, and hopefully the sharing of information can contribute to other people’s journeys.
I do not expect to make anything big of this. This mostly started as a way for people who care about me to track the strange things I like to do. Maybe I will get some input from other people, maybe I will give input. I always like to learn, so for me, this is nothing but opportunities. Feel free to read the pages I (and possibly a friend or two) post here, leave comments behind, or send us your own tidbits. All we ask is that people be civilized humans here, pretty simple. So enjoy your visit, and come back if you like.
